A highly celebrated and important Mexican festivities occurs during Hispanic Heritage Month. September 16 marks Mexican Independence Day, which celebrates Mexico's declaration of independence from Spain in 1810.
People of Mexican descent around the world celebrate this significant moment in their country's history, when a courageous priest , Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, rang his church bell and made a moving speech that launched the War of Independence from Spain.
Even today, the President of Mexico participates by ringing the same bell, which is already more than 200 years old. This festival is packed with national pride celebrations, parties, colorful parades, mariachi music, and lots of food.
We are wishing everyone a safe and wonderful weekend.
